Discussion Paper No. 1: Participatory Action Research in Healthcare Systems
This paper presents a participatory methodological synthesis of 8 participatory action research (PAR) studies conducted within the Spanish National Healthcare System. Drawing on over 2 decades of empirical work, our authors propose a refined reading of the Kemmis and McTaggart model and introduce 3 dimensions within each PAR phase: participation & power, dynamization, and feedforward.
This paper is intended for researchers and practitioners engaged in participatory health research and co-design processes. We sincerely hope that it will support the design of future studies and institutional transformation efforts.
